In his daily lecture on the pandemic, the governor of the state of New York, Andrew Cuomo, wanted to convey an encouraging reflection for those who feel that they can no longer cope with this situation.
“Yesterday we had about 1,100 people entering the hospital with covid-19, which is more than we would like but less than we have seen in 21 days,” Cuomo said. “Our efforts are working. But we must maintain it if we want the curve to decrease faster.”
Despite this positive development, 437 people died in New York yesterday from the virus, Cuomo added, up from 422 the day before. “This number is, as you can see, flat, call it flat with a slight decrease, if you’re looking for a silver lining. But this is terrible, terrible, horrible news,” Cuomo said.
The governor also announced that the state is testing about 20,000 people a day and will sign an executive order to allow New York’s nearly 5,000 independent pharmacies to become covid-19 evidence collection centers.
“Just a quick clarification, tests at pharmacies will be diagnostic tests, negative positives, not antibody tests,” Cuomo said. “They will be able to go to a pharmacy and have a test, the sample will be collected at the pharmacy, the pharmacy sends it to a laboratory and the laboratory performs the test,” the governor explained.
