An articulated bus on line 101 of the Transantiago capital public transport system was burned last Friday night amid disturbances in the commune of Estación Central.
The vehicle ended up completely destroyed despite the action of Firefighters, who came to the scene to control the flames and prevent the spread of the fire.
The incident occurred before 9:00 pm at the intersection of Avenida 5 de Abril with Calle Quemchi, in the town of Villa Francia.
Carabineros reported a person detained in the context of these incidents. Captain Constanza Cerpa, round officer of the Santiago Central Prefecture, reported that the bus was intercepted by some twenty strangers who intimidated him to get off the vehicle along with a dozen passengers. The subjects took the bus to the population.
There were about 150 people there, Cerpa said, who started “the fire and total burning of this Transantiago bus, proceeding to make barricades at the intersections of the surrounding streets.”
Personnel from the Prefecture of Public Order Control intervened in the place and arrested a person, of legal age, for disorders.
An earlier demonstration was reported in the center of Santiago, near Plaza Baquedano.
Regarding that event, Carabineros reported that due to the concentration of more than 50 people in the place, uniformed officers of the Prefecture for Public Order Control detained two people, because mass congregations were prohibited in public spaces in the context of the State of Constitutional Exception of Catastrophe that has been in force since March 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
