Apple could bring out a mysterious new iPhone that nobody knows about

Although we are still waiting for the iPhone 12 to come out in September, there are rumors that it may not arrive until the beginning of 2021. Now, a new leak from a reliable source indicates that neither of the two possible dates could be correct.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the renowned Chinese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that there will be four models of iPhone 12 in 2020 – but that they will not arrive at the same time but on different dates. Kuo is perhaps the most reliable source of anything to do with Apple, with a success rate that suggests that he lives in Tim Cook’s bedroom closet.

Kuo claims there will be two small iPhone 12 phones – the 5.4 and 6.1 inches – that will begin mass production in September, as has always happened. But then there will be a 6.7-inch model that will start manufacturing in October.

What is not clear is what the fourth iPhone SE model will be, unlike blogger Jon Prosser, who claims to have the technical characteristics of the iPhone 12 in each of its four models. It may also be 6.7 inches – but we’ll discuss that further below.

The tiny – by current standards – iPhone SE (2020) began production in mid-March and will be available this week, in April. This could indicate that, if Kuo is correct, the small iPhone 12 models would be available in October and the large one in November.

It would not be the first time that Apple has done this. In 2017, Apple released the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus, and, months later, the iPhone X.

What will these iPhone 12t be

But Kuo doesn’t elaborate on the first three iPhone 12s – and doesn’t even dare say what the mysterious fourth iPhone will be. That suggests that perhaps Prosser’s information is not entirely correct. Judging by their respective hit rates, Kuo appears to have more rebellious spies in Apple’s factories and suppliers than whatever sources Prosser has, which has repeatedly failed in its predictions about the Cupertino company’s products.

According to Apple’s record, the top three models could be the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and, in November, the iPhone 12 Pro Max with its absurdly gigantic 6.7-inch screen.

Perhaps the fourth iPhone will be identical to the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max but will have 5G connectivity as a differentiating element. But this would totally go against what Prossser said, which states that all the new iPhone 12 will have a 5G connection, as you can see in this image that he published on Twitter:

But again, Kuo does not say either about 5G or about this fourth iPhone, so we could assume that Prosser is not right and that it could be a mysterious model that nobody has any certainty. Both things could also be true simultaneously: that the iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have all 5G and that this fourth model is not an iPhone 12 as such, but something completely different.

Exactly what, we have no idea. Right now, aside from Prosser’s claims that don’t match Kuo’s, no one seems to know what this mysterious iPhone is about.

Perhaps it is the iPhone SE Plus, with a larger screen than the new 4.7-inch model, although that will not be very exciting. Or maybe it is true and the iPhone 12 will not have 5G in any model except in this fourth cell – something that at this moment in which all the Android flagships, even the cheapest ones, carry 5G connectivity. By the end of the year, 5G will be widespread everywhere, so Apple could be out of the game for another year compared to the competition.

We will see what happens in a few months, although we are sure that the rumors will continue to arrive at an increasingly intense rate and, as in 2019, we will know everything about the iPhone 12 before they come out – including this mysterious fourth iPhone.
