Matías Acevedo leaves his post at Dipres and will assume as executive director of Chile before the IDB | Economy

The Ministry of Finance reported this Friday that Matías Acevedo Ferrer, Director of Budgets, will leave his position to assume as executive director of Chile before the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), by appointment of the President of the Republic.

The President thanked Matías Acevedo for the work at the head of Dipres and stressed that with this appointment the Government seeks to strengthen Chile’s leadership position in the region, as well as the IDB’s ability to face the challenges arising from the health crisis and economic, contributing the experience and capacity that Matías Acevedo has shown in charge of Dipres facing similar tasks.

“I recognize and value the professional and human quality of Matías. Not only did he accompany me as Deputy Director of Dipres at the beginning of the Government, but he also led the discussion of this year’s Budget, which has allowed us to face the pandemic with responsibility, ”said the Minister of Finance and Governor of Chile to the IDB, Rodrigo Cerda .

For his part, Acevedo thanked the President of the Republic as well as Minister Cerda, and especially the Dipres team, for the trust they placed in him.

As Director of Budgets, a position he assumed in December 2019, Acevedo promoted different initiatives in terms of public modernization, promoted the Agenda for Better Public Expenditure led by the Ministry of Finance and the processing of the 2021 Budget that, for the first time, incorporated the Zero Base mode, allowing greater flexibility and control of projected spending.

Likewise, it played a fundamental role in the preparation and approval of the fiscal packages destined to face the sanitary emergency and its economic and social impacts. Among them, his participation in the agreement between the Government, the Chile Vamos parties and the main Opposition parties, which allowed the creation of the Covid Fund of US $ 12,000 million in June 2020, and the recently announced fiscal package for US $ stands out. An additional 6,000 million, with measures to help the middle class and the most vulnerable to face the pandemic in 2021.

In her replacement, Cristina Torres Delgado, current Deputy Director of Public Rationalization of Dipres, will assume.

Cristina Torres is a lawyer from the Universidad Mayor, graduated in Economic Regulation from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, and has specialized in Organizational Design of the State and Management of Working Conditions in the Public Sector, and in Administrative Law and Administrative Responsibility.

He also has extensive experience in Budget Management. Between 2012 and 2014, she was an advisor to the Director of Budgets of the first government of President Piñera, Rossana Costa; In 2018 she returned to the Budget Office as an analyst in the Legal Unit of the Budget Office and later assumed as Deputy Director of Rationalization and Public Function, a position she holds to date.

The Minister of Finance thanked the outgoing Executive Director of Chile before the IDB Alex Foxley and highlighted his work, dedication, and professionalism during his years in the representation before the IDB.
