The Senate approved this Wednesday the articles of the project that seeks to carry out in two days the mega election of mayors, governors, councilors and constituents set for April, on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11, in order to avoid crowds in the voting precincts.
The initiative, which required a two-thirds quorum, equivalent to 29 votes, had 38 options in favor, two against and one abstention.
Within what was approved by the senators is the determination of “preferred” hours, which must be seen by the Electoral Service (Servel); a permission for “general proxies” to remain in the polling places during the night of Saturday and the early morning of Sunday; the order of what the ballot boxes and electoral supplies remain sealed; and that board members receive a bonus of 60,000 pesos for both days and 25,000 pesos if they show up for a single day.
The measure will now go to the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, where the original project presented by the Executive was rejected.
