River Plate gave a tremendous beating by 5-0 to Racing at the Estadio Unico in Santiago del Estero and won the title of the Argentine Super Cup, the first title of the “blood band” since 2019.
Paulo Díaz was a starter in the “millionaire” cast and Gabriel Arias did the same in the “academy”, the latter with good saves, despite the disastrous presentation of his team.
River was always superior, despite some dangerous attempts by the cast of Juan Antonio Pizzi, and scored the first goal in 30 minutes, after a perfect header from Rafael Santos Borré, beating Arias, who minutes before had shown a covered Nicolás De La Cruz.
In the second half, the process was being unattractive and the game was even, all that until a great burst of Marcelo Gallardo’s team arrived, who scored three goals in four minutes, thanks to the newly entered Julián Alvarez (68 ‘), De La Cruz (70’) and an own goal by Leonel Miranda (72 ‘).
The party was closed for Matías Suárez (80 ‘), to give the title to Díaz’s cast (who played a great game) for the second time in its history, after the one achieved in 2017.
Now, both casts must quickly turn the page and play Monday against Rosario Central, in the case of Racing, and against Argentinos Juniors, in the case of River Plate.
