President Sebastian Piñera He held an interview with T13, an opportunity in which he referred to issues such as the third 10% withdrawal, the violence in La Araucanía, the covid-19 pandemic and the April 11 elections.
Regarding the third withdrawal of 10%, he recalled that “the Constitutional Court ruled that this was unconstitutional” and that it only benefits the rich.
To counteract this, the president said that “we are looking for an agreement, but if we do not reach an agreement, we will fulfill our commitment and we will immediately discuss a bill that was approved more than a year ago and that allows us to improve pensions (…) we are going to improve it, a year has passed ”, he specified.
It is about the pension reform, announcing an additional 6% state contribution, financed with tax exemptions.
He also delved into the conflict in La Araucanía, asking to distinguish between legitimate Mapuche demands and organized crime.
“We are willing to sit down with all those who condemn violence and want to seek solutions in peace,” declared the Head of State on the situation of violence in the southern Macrozone of the country.
In relation to the pandemic, he maintained that he will seek to extend the state of Catastrophe – which expires on March 13 – which must now be approved by Congress. “The state of catastrophe is absolutely necessary, due to the pandemic”, projection.
Regarding the April elections, he confirmed the sending of the bill so that the elections take place in two days, on the 10th and 11th, highlighting that “people will be able to vote on Saturday or Sunday; I think there is political agreement for that ”.
Regarding the presidential race, the president pointed out that “there are five very good candidates from Chile Vamos, they were all ministers.” Asked if he has a favorite, he replied: “Obviously I’m not going to give that answer.”
