Justice declared admissible complaint against President Piñera, former Minister Mañalich and former Undersecretary Zúñiga for corruption

This Friday, the 7th Court of Guarantee of Santiago declared admissible the complaint presented by the Chilean Human Rights Commission (CChDH) against him President Sebastián Piñera, the former Minister of Health Jaime Mañalich and the former Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks Arturo Zuniga.

Judicial action points to the crime of corruption, in the context of the health emergency caused by Covid-19 in Chile, and is related to the audit carried out by the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) to the authorization of emergency health infrastructure, that is, the opening of health residences.

According to the indictment, “there are serious antecedents that make it necessary to investigate, establish responsibility and punish the defendants, with the penalties of imprisonment and absolute perpetual disqualification for positions or public offices, according to their participation as authors, accomplices or accessories, according to the penalty assigned to the crimes of corruption reported ”.

The CChDH maintains in its complaint that The crime of fraud to the Treasury is prosecuted, with respect to the alleged intervention in irregular contracts and unjustified payments for services not provided.

There is also talk of care to “ghost patients” who were outside the country, on a date prior to the pandemic period in Chile, “facts that defrauding the State, have originated millionaire losses to the fiscal treasury, all Chileans being deceived through the diversion of public resources, under the pretext of developing a ‘successful health strategy’ ”, accuses the Commission.
