A new arson attack was reported during the night of this Wednesday in the region of La Araucanía, where several trucks were damaged.
The incident occurred on Ruta 5 Sur, at kilometer 584 — from south to north — in the Pidima sector, a town located in the Ercilla commune, in the Araucanía region. According to preliminary information, there were at least four trucks and one smaller vehicle, which were affected as a result of the incident.
In addition, shots were reported towards Fire Department personnel and two drivers, who were said to have been wounded as a result of the shots. However, this information has yet to be corroborated by the pertinent authorities.
The traffic, until the closing of this edition, remained completely stopped according to the concessionaire Ruta de la Araucanía.
Military personnel came to the place to guard the series of vehicles that are stopped in both directions.
Previous incidents
This attack follows a series of arson attacks that occurred this Tuesday between the Bío Bío region – Arauco province – and La Araucanía.
Yesterday, on Route 182 that connects Collipulli with Angol, unknown persons fired at a truck from the Traco Sur company, causing damage to the structure of the vehicle, specifically where it was carrying the fuel.
Later, a group of hooded men fired shots at the perimeter fence of the Ercilla Sub-police Station. This fact did not leave police personnel injured or damage to the barracks.
Meanwhile, in the Bío Bío region there were also incidents involving the burning of buildings in both Cañete and Tirúa.
