For the afternoon of this Monday a new report of Andean Waters on the situation of drinking water in the Metropolitan region, after yesterday it was announced that a mega-cut could be generated in 38 communes.
The rainfall led to Maipo and Mapocho rivers at historical levels, which led to the suspension of water production, activating the use of the reserves stored in the Pirque mega-ponds.
These reserves were at risk of being terminated, so yesterday Aguas Andinas warned that a cut could be generated and the Government called to collect water. However, in the last hours three treatment plants were started up on the Maipo River, alleviating the situation.
However, a water cut may still occur. Gabriel Zamorano, head of Inspection of the Superintendency of Sanitary Services (SISS), with the program Bío Bío Express.
Zamorano assured that there are still possibilities of the cut occurring, but only if conditions worse “And some of these plants would have to be stopped” that are operational.
It is about plants Las Vizcachas, La Florida and Padre Hurtado, which draw water from the Maipo River.
The SISS member added that, in the event of the cut, he will be notified with at least 4 hours in advance.
For this reason, he called on citizens to keep the water they saved after the call made on Sunday, because the Yellow Alert decreed by the emergency is still in force.
