The Chilean Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond, newly appointed UN Secretary-General’s envoy for technologies, was suspended following accusations by women of inappropriate behavior, the United Nations indicated this Thursday.

After “accusations about a possible prohibited conduct against Fabrizio Hochschild were communicated to us,” it has been decided to suspend him while an internal investigation is carried out, said UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, confirming information published by PassBlue, a specialized medium on the organization.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, takes “very seriously any accusation of harassment, abuse of power, discrimination or sexual harassment,” Dujarric said.

No details have been given on the accusations. According to PassBlue, several women who worked with Hochschild last year filed complaints against him for cases of harassment and other inappropriate behavior.

In 2020, Hochschild, 57, born in the United Kingdom and of Chilean nationality, He was in charge of the commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the UN.

He stated to PassBlue that he was willing to cooperate with investigators.

This UN official has worked for the organization for decades, in which he held various positions in Sudan, Jerusalem, Bosnia, Geneva, New York, East Timor, Serbia and Tanzania.
