New antecedents of the LED or Luminaries Case were released after a partner of the Itelecom company revealed that, in boxes of wines, they paid large sums of cash to mayors.
According to a report published by Meganoticias it was Ricardo Rodríguez Bizama, a partner of the company formalized by bribery, who revealed the mechanisms with which they secured the bids in the municipalities. The partner mentioned the communes of Negrete, Chillán, Coyhaique and Natales.
Rodríguez maintained that at first they did not win any bids, however, after meeting Alex Fuenzalida, an engineer who became a commercial manager for Itelecom and who had already worked at FAE Lumisistemas, began to win the cases.
“Alex Fuenzalida taught us to tender. Marcelo Lefort (owner of Itelecom) told us that if something had to be done, pay bribes, Fuenzalida was going to do it. We found out a year later, mid-end of 2016. There it makes clear to us that this was the way the company operated in exchange for a monthly payment to Alex Fuenzalida ”, he confessed to the aforementioned media.
Even the formalized one pointed out that they communicated through the Signal application, since the messages disappeared there. On this, he explained that “there was an instruction from Lefort to use this application to discuss sensitive issues, including bribery payments.”
The portal reported that the company paid him 37 million pesos in cash to Chillán’s legal advisor to stay with the tender for that commune.
In wine box
According to the investigation, Mayor of Coyhaique, Alejandro Huala, received a bribe of 8 million pesos, payment that was made in a corrugated box of wine.
“The money was given to us by Marcelo Lefort to pay the mayor. We pay him at a restaurant downtown on the second floor. We carry the money in a wine box because Marcelo Lefort suggested it“, said.
After knowing the facts, Huala confirmed that he will not run again for the post: “There has been a use and a public derision of a judicial situation, this whole issue has been used politically and obviously the only thing that causes is distrust (…) I have decided lower the candidacy ”.
Total, $ 1,659 million would have been paid in bribes nationwide, according to a confession by Leonardo Heriberto Bustos, former director and partner of Itelecom.
Regarding Recoleta’s edge, Heriberto confessed that Lefort “was related to Jadue’s lawyer, Ramón Sepúlveda. There are several tickets of Sepúlveda fees paid by Itelecom, I didn’t know for which services ”.
