The National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) reported the death of a worker from the National Copper Corporation (Codelco) in an accident in the Chuquicamata division, in the Antofagasta Region.
According to the state copper company, the deceased is Rodrigo Roco, 53, a worker in the Extraction and Leaching Management of the aforementioned division.
Through a statement, the company explained that the death occurred “in circumstances that the worker was developing operational inspection activities in area 130 of the pile mineral treatment plant” and “the activities of the area were immediately suspended and the rigorous procedures began, notifying the competent authorities and activating the investigation to determine the causes of this unfortunate event.”
In this context, personnel from Sernageomin de Antofagasta went to the mineral during this day to start the investigation.

FTC called for redoubled efforts to eradicate fatal accidents
The Federation of Copper Workers (FTC) expressed its condolences to the family and asked the Codelco administration “to redouble efforts to eradicate fatal accidents.”
“Once again, the main mining company in the country is faced with the sad death of a co-worker, a painful reality that forces us to exhaust all instances and take the pertinent actions that allow investigating and establishing the responsibilities and circumstances that caused this unfortunate and avoidable Work accident, “they remarked from the FTC.
