He army questioned the decision of the Prosecutor’s office to formalize the driver of a military vehicle, after a accident that ended with a soldier with serious injuries, in the middle of a control during the curfew in the commune of Curicó.
It was an accident that occurred in Camino Alto de Zapallar, what left Second Corporal Brayan Castillo Salgado with serious injuries to his legs, which after a surgical intervention in the Hospital of that city, had to be amputated.
The military man is still in critical condition, which is why his transfer to the Military Hospital in Santiago is being evaluated.
According to the Army version, the car that ran over Corporal Castillo was traveling at excess speed, throwing it against the back of the military vehicle that was stopped at the place where the control was being practiced and, following its trajectory, hit him from behind.
Exercised questioned the Prosecutor’s Office
In that sense, he harshly questioned the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office to formalize charges against both drivers, both of the minor vehicle and the military transport, remaining with precautionary measures.
“It is incomprehensible for the Chilean Army that precautionary measures have been ordered against the driver of the military vehicle, in circumstances that his vehicle was detained, he was hit from behind and CB2 Castillo was run over in the road by the private vehicle,” they claim.
“All legal actions will be exercised to establish his total innocence in this unfortunate event, granting said official the legal defense that corresponds to him as such, when it occurred while he was in the act of service,” added the military institution.
The SIAT report
In this regard, deputy prosecutor, Enrique Fernández, indicated that the decision to formalize both drivers was made based on the report prepared by the Carabineros Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT).
“SIAT personnel were able to conclude that the responsibility for this accident lay both with the driver of the military vehicle as well as that of the private vehicle, since the driver of the military vehicle stops on the road to carry out a check on people who were in the public thoroughfare at curfew hours ”, he assured.
“The vehicle remains in the middle of the road and the military official, complying with his protocols, proceeds to stand behind the vehicle, a situation that is not noticed by the driver of the private vehicle, which was not attentive to traffic conditions,” he added Fernandez.
“By virtue of the fact that there are responsibilities for both drivers, both were transferred to detention control, and both were formalized by the quasi-crime of very serious injuries and the precautionary measure of national roots was requested,” concluded the persecutor.
The investigation period was set at 6 months, to carry out the necessary steps to clarify what happened.
