During today’s session the panelists of the morning of TVN Good morning to all received direct questioning while interviewing Sandra Cortes, member of the Chilean Society of Epidemiology (SOCHEPI).
In the context of a conversation with the professional to inform about the risks of the spread of covid-19 through travel, the professional criticized the authorities and the way of means to exemplify correct self-care.
“We, who are epidemiologists, are sometimes confused by the messages that come to us from the authorities. When I say confused messages, I mean, for example, the use of a mask. The mask should be used in open and closed spaces. The mask is an element that the community has to use permanently, they have to have access to this mask and they have to use it well ”, he commented.
At that time, Cortés expressed his concern to the animators accompanied by Dr. Ugarte, commenting that education to the population must start from the media. However, he emphasized that the security measures used in the television studio were not the best, so that generated the wrong image for the audience.
“Someone has to educate. I’m very sorry, I would like to be as nice as possible, but the masks that you are showing on television are masks that allow the virus to escape. They are masks that allow the movement of particles and droplets ”, he expressed.
To which he added his main criticism: “the signs are confusing. People understand them differently based on their educational level, based on their life experience, but we have received many confusing signals during all this time ”.
