A new problem hits the University of Chile. According to information from Redgol, La U registered a positive case of coronavirus in the exams prior to the match this Sunday against the University of Concepción, for the 27th date of the National Championship.
It is a member of the team that will put traceability to the test, since a greater number of footballers went into isolation due to the possible transmission of covid-19 to other members of the first university team.
In any case, the possibility of it becoming a massive contagion has the coaching staff and the Blue leadership extremely concerned, since a string of games is coming: next Wednesday against O’Higgins and a week later against Palestino.
For now, the precautionary measure was taken for the team to concentrate on a hotel in the capital, for the first time under the new covid protocols in terms of the prelude to a match to be played in Santiago.
University of Chile confirms information
After 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, the University of Chile confirms the information from Redgol and adds that the member of the squad with coronavirus is a youth player, who at the same time is staying in a club residence.
“We report that the rest of the PCR exams (59) carried out in the previous match against the University of Concepción yielded negative results,” the university team clarified through a statement.
Last week, the university team had made news for another case of coronavirus, which corresponded to one of the assistants of coach Rafael Dudamel. The same Venezuelan was infected before it was presented in November.
Concern is raised about the possibility that Los Azules face new positive cases, so their calendar would be subject to what the ANFP and the Medical Commission determine in the event of the emergency.
The U goes for the Copa Libertadores
The health problem comes at a complex time for the University of Chile. The ANFP determined that the fourth place in the National Championship will win the fourth place in the Copa Libertadores and Los Azules are in an expectant sixth position.
Currently, the university team has 36 points in the standings, thirteen from the leader Universidad Católica, but only four from the fourth, Deportes Antofagasta, which will face Colo Colo in the north this Sunday.
