The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) ordered the closure of 4 growing areas in the Los Lagos region due to the presence of amnesic poison at toxic levels, as a consequence of algal blooms.
Three are from Puerto Montt and one from Calbuco, specifically in the areas Ilque Bay, Huenquillahue, Huelmo Bay and Punta Lolcura, in which bivalve molluscs are extracted for export to Europe.
The deputy regional director of Sernapesca Los Lagos, Branny Montecinos, indicated that they maintain coordination with the health authorities and reported that the Results have improved in at least one of the monitored centers.
Montecinos emphasized that the sampling will continue intensively in neighboring areas, such as the commune of Calbuco, in order to maintain surveillance in the areas corresponding to the Bivalve Molluscs Sanitary Program.
