The measures that will be applied to all people arriving from abroad as of December 31

This Tuesday the first case in Chile of the new British variant of SARS-CoV-2 and that corresponds to a woman who came from a flight from Madrid, after spending three weeks in Dubai and one week in London, arriving in the national territory on December 21.

After giving positive to a PCR test carried out at the Santiago Airport, the ISP carried out an analysis that identified this most contagious strain. Therefore, the patient and close contacts initiated strict isolation in a medical center, while authorities call for the rest of the passengers of the flights involved initiate isolation immediately to prevent the spread of this variant.

However, they also announced new measures for Chileans, resident foreigners or foreigners who enter Chile after a trip to another country.

In these cases, and as of December 31, those passengers must comply with a mandatory 10-day quarantine.

It is only possible to lift such confinement under two conditions. First, a PCR test must be performed only on the seventh day of quarantine, and secondly, it must be negative.

These new measures are in addition to those already adopted on December 19, when the suspension of direct flights from the UK to the country.

From then on, it banned all non-resident aliens who had been to the UK the previous 14 days. And those Chileans or foreigners residing in Chile who have visited British territory in the previous 14 days, must carry out a two-week quarantine with strict monitoring.
