An Army official is missing, After this Sunday afternoon, the kayak in which he was sailing with a colleague capsized on the coast of the Chabunco sector in Punta Arenas, Magallanes region.
According to the information received, two people in kayak overturned in the vicinity of the coastline, one of them managing to reach the shore by their own means and the other remains disappeared at the moment, the event took place under storm conditions with strong prevailing wind in the sector.
The missing person was identified as Hugo Fuentealba, while the official found with the beginning of hypothermia is Second Lieutenant Pedro Moya.
Faced with this situation, the Maritime Authority ordered the deployment of a SAR operation with different Units, including the Archangel LSR 4407 Rescue Service Boat, the LSG 1619 “Punta Arenas” General Service Boat, the Naval-57 Naval Aircraft Helicopter.
In addition, Maritime Police patrols have also participated, the latter finding the person who made the call together with one of those involved in the incidents, which presented symptoms related to hypothermia, coordinating the first medical care with SAMU.
In addition, the Navy called for the necessary precautions to be taken when these types of activities are practiced, “such as the use of adequate equipment and communication, as well as respecting the current context of health emergency and compliance with restrictions on movement, recreational activities and meeting currently in force ”.
