A man armed with a knife killed seven people and wounded an equal number this Sunday in a town in northeast China, for reasons still unknown, according to state media.

The tragedy occurred early Sunday on the streets of Kaiyuan, Liaoning province, the Xinhua news agency reported.

The attacker killed seven people and wounded as many in what appears to have been an “indiscriminate attack.”
, after which he was arrested by the police in front of a bathroom establishment, according to the same source.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of this drama, the Kaiyuan Public Security Bureau said in a statement posted on the Weibo social network (equivalent to Twitter in China).

Knife attacks are quite frequent in China, because there are no other weapons to kill in a country where ordinary citizens are not allowed to carry firearms.

As usual, this type of murder is perpetrated blindly, without personal purposes, by people who perceive themselves as victims of injustice and seek revenge on society.

In February 2019, an individual who suspected his wife was unfaithful to him stabbed eight people to death and wounded seven others in a town in Gansu province (northwest).

In addition, in April 2018, another individual killed nine high school students leaving their high school in Shaanxi province (north), injuring 12 others. The 28-year-old said he acted out of revenge after being victim of harassment while studying at the same school.
