A “great concern” expressed this Saturday the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, for the number of coronavirus infections and noted that in the Metropolitan Region “the increase in cases in the last 14 days reaches 39%”. In addition, health authorities reported the highest number of daily positives in the last 162 days.

Asked about this situation and a possible second wave, the Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Alberto DougnacHe stated that “in recent days we have seen a sustained increase in the number of active cases. Globally, we have had a 37% increase in the last 14 days. However, this increase has not been homogeneous in all regions and we have seen that some have increased more significantly, but there are also others in which the incidence has decreased ”.

“It should be noted that The figures we register today are actually quite a long way from those registered in May and June.. The scenario is different, the way in which cases are diagnosed is also different: they are not all symptomatic patients as we saw in those months, “he said.

And he added: “We have been preparing the health network to face this second wave. We have considered the growth of intensive care units, the appropriate equipment to meet this requirement. From that point of view, I believe that we are prepared to meet the health needs in this area ”.

Then, Minister Paris stressed that “a second wave can occur if the population does not take (self-care) measures into account.” Reinforcing that, “we anticipated this possibility and, as Dr. Dougnac said, hospitals are being reconverted. There are regions that are in a more critical situation (…) however, unlike the first time, only 2.5% of patients are hospitalized in the ICU ”.

In the delivery of a new balance on the evolution of the pandemic in the country, the health authority indicated that on the last day 2,564 new cases of coronavirus were diagnosed (1,618 symptomatic, 864 asymptomatic and 82 that have not been notified). This is the highest number of infections since July 17 and, in addition, it is the third consecutive day that this indicator exceeds two thousand.

Thus, the number of positives detected in the country since last March amounted to 598,394, with 14,275 active cases and 567,376 recovered.

On the other hand, it reported that – according to data from the Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS) – the total number of deaths nationwide reached 16,404. In the last day, 46 new deaths were confirmed due to the virus.

He also noted that there are people hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU) rose to 700546 of them with mechanical ventilation support and 64 in critical condition.
