At noon this Friday, the planes with the vaccines for the regions of Magallanes, La Araucanía and Biobío took off from Santiago. The vaccines were shipped in boxes already prepared and ready for each of the regional Health Centers. These boxes reached each region with the distribution of the doses already made in the capital for each regional ICU, so that the vaccination process in each of the regions was carried out more quickly. To meet this objective, the process of preparation and thawing of the doses was started at 5:00 am this Friday.
The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, stressed that “in 24 hours we have reached four regions with vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, in an enormous effort by many professionals and institutions, which I am sure will alleviate the pain of thousands of compatriots. I appreciate the enormous work of the Carabineros, the Air Force and the PDI, as well as, obviously, the tireless work of health professionals ”.
The authority reported that the process will continue tomorrow and we have already had 2,682 vaccinated in the Metropolitan region; 1,279, in the Bío Bío region; 675 in the region of La Araucanía; and 165 in the Magallanes region, which gives a total of 4,801 inoculated professionals.
The Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, arrived in the Biobío region; meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Alberto Dougnac, did it to Magallanes; and the Minister of Social Development, Karla Rubilar, arrived in La Araucanía. The authorities delivered the vaccines that will reach 26 establishments and will immunize almost 3,000 health officials from the aforementioned regions.
In the case of Bío Bio, the doses reached the Guillermo Grant Benavente and the Traumatológico de Concepción hospitals, the Las Higueras, Tomé and Penco hospitals in Talcahuano, the Los Ángeles Hospital and the Curanilahue de Arauco Hospital. They will also be distributed in the Los Andes, Biobío, Universitaria, the German Sanatorium, the Southern Clinic and the Naval Hospital.
In La Araucanía, the vaccine was delivered to the Abraham Godoy Peñas Lautaro, Nueva Imperial, Pitrufquén, Hernán Henríquez Aravena de Temuco hospitals and the Padre Las Casas Hospital, located in the south of the region. In addition, the doses will be distributed at the Mauricio Heyermann Torres de Angol, San José de Victoria hospitals and at the Alemana and Redsalud Mayor clinics.
Finally, in the Magallanes region, the vaccination process began at the Magallanes Clinical Hospital, the Puerto Natales Hospital, the RED Salud Clinic and the Punta Arenas Naval Hospital.
In the southernmost region of the world, the first immunized official corresponded to the TENS Vanesa Santibáñez, who is 30 years old and has worked for 8 years in the Critical Patient Unit (PCU) of the Magallanes Clinical Hospital. In September, she was infected with COVID-19 and although she was not hospitalized, she developed the disease with acute symptoms, presenting dyspnea after the end of her quarantine. After recovering, he returned to his work at the UPC to continue contributing to this pandemic.
“The vaccine is the beginning of the end of this pandemic, we must all make the decision to get vaccinated because it is a vaccine with studies carried out. We as a team have supported each other to deliver well-being to patients so that they can win this battle. I was the first to receive a positive patient last March and since that moment I have been away from my family, that is why I call for vaccinations because that way we can get out of this together, “she said.
In the La Araucanía region, the first immunized official was Tamara Sandoval, TENS of the Hernán Henríquez Aravena Hospital in Temuco, who has been working in the facility for 2 years and has been working on the front line since the beginning of the pandemic. She is married and the mother of 4 children, whom she stopped seeing to avoid infecting them.
“My main motivation for getting vaccinated is a personal story, since since the beginning of the pandemic I have had to distance myself from my children. It is a lost time that will not be recovered, it has been a pain for me, but my children are reassured that the mother is doing a job that she likes, because I am in a service that I love. They are in charge of the father for the time being. I was vaccinated, but I will continue to have the same safeguards when I see them. This vaccine is a light of hope to recover us ”, he assured.
In the Bío Bío region, the first immunized official was Dr. Sara Delgado Echeverría (32), an internist at the ICU since 2016. She has collaborated in the drafting of protocols for the management of covid-19 patients and is in charge of the coordination of medical shifts in all areas that make up the Critical Patient Unit.
“As a health team, although we do our job with pleasure, these 10 months of the pandemic have been exhausting. The region and particularly our commune are going through difficult times, with numbers that are not very good, but also from an emotional point of view. All of us at some point have been afraid of catching ourselves and making our loved ones sick. We have seen our co-workers arrive, who are like part of our family, seriously ill and that has made our work more difficult and that is why this vaccine is a light for us. It gives us hope since it is an important protection tool ”, he stressed.
