The Ministry of Health reported this Friday the highest number of new coronavirus infections in 5 months, in what seems to be a consolidation of the arrival of the “second wave” of cases at the national level, a wave that is already being experienced by areas such as Magallanes, Bío Bío, Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos and Maule, and little by little it is evident in the capital.

Is about 2,520 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours, with another 55 deaths to mourn.

At the regional level, Metropolitana adds another 580 positives in the day, followed by Bío Bío (425), Los Lagos (276) and Maule (233). The latter area has seen a sudden rise in recent days, probably influenced by some outbreaks registered in agricultural companies.

The last time the country had reported a similar high number of infections was on July 24, with 2,545 positives that day.

Further, active cases of the virus exceeded 14 thousand this Friday. Specifically, there are 14,133, the highest since the change in methodology, on October 24, when the time in which an infected person is considered “active” was reduced from 14 to 11 days.

With 48,011 PCR tests processed in the last day, the national positivity remains high, with 5.25%. In regions, Magallanes rises again in this index, with 12%; same figure as in Araucanía. In the north, which had shown low infections in recent weeks, they also experience increases. Tarapacá scored 9% positive.
