Scribbling increases the ability to bear pain. That is one of the conclusions reached by “The Story of Swearing”, the Netflix docuseries that debuts on January 5 and is hosted by American actor Nicolas Cage.

In Space, which explores the origin of insults in the English language like “F ** k”, “Sh * t”, “B * tch”, “D ** k”, “Pu ** y” and “Damn” , has experts who analyze the meaning of these scribbles -many of them with explanation in the history of the different English-speaking societies- and also particular experiments.

The studies”

It is through one of those “studies” that during the series it is discovered that scribbling helps to better manage pain. The way to “check it out” is to ask different people to hold a hand in a bucket of ice water. Some are allowed to swear and others are not.

And the difference in the amount of time that those who must restrain themselves endure versus those who throw curses is decisive: those who insult freely, endure practically twice as much.

This and more will be able to “learn” those who watch “The Story of Swearing”, a production directed by Nicolas Cage that streaming giant Netflix promotes as “a proudly profane series.”
