This Wednesday the health authorities delivered a new balance on the advance of the coronavirus in the country, opportunity where 1,726 new cases were reported.
Regarding positivity, it reached 5.53%, this being the second highest percentage since last October 21, when it reached 6.11%.
Likewise, eight regions presented a percentage of positivity above the national average: the Tarapacá region, with 9%; the Maule, also with 9%; the Ñuble region, which this time marked 10%; the Bío Bío, with 8%; La Araucanía and Los Ríos, both with 11%; and Los Lagos and Magallanes, both with 9%.
Of the new infections, 1,281 correspond to symptomatic people and 414 to people who do not have symptoms. In addition, 31 Positive PCR tests were recorded that were not reported.
The total number of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 590,914. Of this total, 12,561 patients are in the active stage.
Regarding deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours there were 11 deaths from causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deceased amounts to 16,228 in the country.
To date, 694 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU), of which 524 are on mechanical ventilation support and 66 are in critical health. Regarding the Integrated Health Network, there is a total of 279 ventilators available for the patient who requires it, regardless of the region where you are.
Regarding the Laboratory Network and the diagnostic capacity, yesterday the results of 31,234 PCR tests were reported, reaching a total of 6,169,000 tests analyzed nationwide to date.
Regarding the arrival this Thursday of the first 10,000 doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris pointed out that “this is great news for the country, we are one of the first countries in the world to start vaccinationThat fills us with pride, but as the President said, it is necessary to continue taking care of yourself ”.

The health authority also pointed out that “the positivity for the last 24 hours nationwide is 4.53%.” He also explained that the Magallanes region continues to show a significant decrease in the incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, but it continues to be the highest in the country. The regions with the highest increase in new confirmed cases in the last seven days are Atacama, Aysén, Antofagasta and O’Higgins.
In addition, it was reported that, of the totality of new cases, 21% originate from active case finding (BAC) and 24% of those notified are asymptomatic. As for the Metropolitan region, it presents 19% by BAC and 27% of the reported cases are asymptomatic.
