A group of deputies of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) reacted after the deadly shooting registered this Tuesday in the Maipú commune that caused the death of a 59-year-old woman at a Christmas fair, and another shooting that left a deceased in Cerrillos .

Deputies Jorge Alessandri, Osvaldo Urrutia and Álvaro Carter, members of the Citizen Security Commission of the Lower House, described the events as a “warning sign that we should not ignore.”

In addition, they warned that “with time we are at the limit to prevent drug trafficking from continuing to escalate to unsuspected levels and not ending up affecting us like the rest of the countries of the continent, where trafficking has even permeated State institutions.”

For this reason, the parliamentarians insisted on the need to re-promote an “anti-drug agenda” that contains a series of projects that directly aim to combat the power of organized groups in the country, but that to date have not had a rapid processing in the Congress. Therefore, they directly demanded that the Government grant the maximum of urgencies to initiatives on this matter.

“We cannot continue idly watching how organized groups take over our country without anyone doing anything. The Government itself and the Public Ministry have warned that we are on the verge of drug trafficking penetrating our institutions, and if we don’t take the Seriously, tomorrow is going to be late, “warned the UDI deputies.

The projects on the “anti-drug” agenda

  • Classify the crime of hitman: punishes those who commit a commissioned homicide with a maximum degree of imprisonment to a qualified perpetual prison. It is extended to those who commission the crime (intellectual author).
  • Incorporate automotive companies into the registry of companies that are obliged to report suspicious operations to the Financial Analysis Unit (UAF) or those that are carried out with large sums of cash, as a way to prevent money laundering.
  • Limit the use of cash, establishing a maximum of 240 Development Units (almost $ 7 million) for all purposes.
  • Increase penalties assigned to the crime of falsification or use of a false passport, considering that in recent years this action has grown by 75%.
  • Increase penalties assigned to the crime of smuggling and trafficking in persons, in order to combat groups located in border areas that are dedicated to facilitating the illegal entry of migrants.
  • Prohibit the use of telephone devices inside banking institutions to prevent criminal groups from “marking” clients and then assaulting them.
