The former Minister of Defense and now the presidential letter of the ruling party, Mario Desbordes, believes that it is time not only to launch his career towards La Moneda but also to “rebuild” Chile Vamos and “resume the epic” within the conglomerate that is shuffling, in the same address, the names of the UDIs Evelyn Matthei and Joaquín Lavín.
In an interview with El Mercurio, the candidate Desbordes highlighted the importance of the presidential challenges but said that these should be subject to the work for the elections of conventional, governors, mayors and councilors. In his opinion, the presidential candidates of Chile Vamos have to focus strongly on the Constitutional Convention and the April elections. But above all, “Here there can be no personal taste or tricks between us and the people must see a coalition working together with a common goal and with proposals”, he sentenced.
Let us remember that the presidential race on the right was officially launched with the departure of Mario Desbordes from the Ministry of Defense. A competition that the former deputy (RN) expects to be “without tripping.”
For the ex-member of RN, it is legitimate that there are people who have aspirations “but the priority – he says – is to focus on the Constitutional Convention. And support the Government in the fight against covid-19 and reactivation.”
Regarding its internal containers (Joaquín Lavín and Evelyn Matthei), he stated that “they are extraordinary competitors. I have respect and appreciation for them and I will continue to work together with them.”
Desbordes took the opportunity to clarify that his departure from the cabinet was in coordination with President Sebastián Piñera and that at no time was there any discomfort on the part of the President. “On the contrary,” he added, “I am leaving the ministry after close coordination with the President, talking day, term and time. I am disciplined and the one who decides the day and time is the President. “
