One million pesos in thousand-peso bills and 500 coins Ismael received after trying withdraw your “10%” from a BancoEstado branch in Viña del Mar.

According to the auditor told Radio Bío Bío, he experienced this episode at the branch located on Arlegui street in Viña del Mar, where he was part of a “huge line”. He warned that, despite the fact that he was among the first people, from the beginning the withdrawal was paid with low-denomination bills.

“They are paying with a single thousand peso bill and 500 coins. They say they have no more bill,” he warned, indicating that he considered not taking the money out under those conditions. “Imagine all those who come further back.”

In his case, he said, he had to take coins and bills in a plastic bag. Specifically, 300 thousand pesos had to be loaded in 500 coins, he said.

“One feels bad because it was like being paid with crumbs for one’s money,” he said, expressing that “I was sorry for the grandmother who had nowhere to leave the money.”

BioBioChile contacted BancoEstado to inquire about this situation, from where they promised to review the case, pending an answer.

However, the situation could be related to the Central Bank’s plan to ensure the population’s “fundamental access” to cash in the country, added to the difficulties inherent to trade during the end of the year holidays.

“The work plan has been based on providing a full supply of notes and coins in accordance with the needs of banking companies, guaranteeing this part of the chain prior to arrival at the end customer,” explained the BC in April.
