Authorities of the Valparaíso region question the New Year’s pyrotechnic event due to the high numbers of covid-19 infections that have been reported in recent days.
The area has shown its peak of cases, a fact that had not happened since September.
Already the ICovid Chile team, alerted in its last report on the increase in hospitalizations nationwide.
Figures that in the Valparaíso region have not given rest, where ICU beds are occupied reach 89.6%, placing the area within five with less capacity available amid the pandemic.
This occurs precisely when the zone again surpasses the barrier of 100 infections in 24 hours.
Specifically, 137 new cases were reported, while active infections are in 701. With this they totalize 34,118 cases since the beginning of the pandemic in the Valparaíso region.
In that sense, the seremi of Health, Francisco Álvarez, said that there has been a relaxation in self-care measures.
However, the rise has also been noted in deceased persons, who during the last day were set at 1,203, that is to say, 6 more deaths compared to the previous balance.
On the other hand, the authorities also questioned the realization of the pyrotechnic event in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar to continue with such high figures, as pointed out by the mayor, Jorge Martínez.
Numbers that continue to rise, just when there are a few days left until the summer season officially begins, date in which the arrival of tourists to the area could further compromise the hospital capacity of the Valparaíso region.
