Universidad Católica took another step in its dream of having a first-class stadium on a continental level. Yesterday, in a ceremony that began at 7:00 p.m. and was transmitted through its virtual platforms, Cruzados unveiled the modern design that the remodeled San Carlos de Apoquindo will wear. The New Fortress.
The pre-mountain range venue will increase its capacity from 14,700 to 20 thousand spectators, with a total cost that will reach US $ 30 million. The corporation that manages the UC soccer branch has not yet obtained the financing, although it has three defined paths to follow: the naming rights (name associated with a brand), capital increase and debt issuance.
“It is not expensive. We are extraordinarily responsible with every peso we spend. All sectors of the stadium will have a better experience, which does not compare with the current one, ”says Juan Pablo Pareja, general manager of Cruzados.
Unlike the current structure, the future San Carlos will have two public trays, throughout the entire stadium. There will be a third, smaller tray, which will be isolated from the rest of the people, where the media will be located.
The building will increase from four to five floors, an increase that will be reflected in the Sergio Livingstone preferential tribune, where more boxes will be built. “Wood will have a role in the remodeling. It is a noble material, of architectural beauty. It will be appreciated in the new facilities. We are going to maintain the basic structure of the stadium, to reduce costs ”, adds the executive.
The goal is for the New Crusade Fortress to begin construction in 2022 so that it is finished in 2023, just for the Pan American Games. The idea is also that the stadium is sustainable and energy efficient. For that, it will have 400 photovoltaic panels, low-consumption LED lights and efficient taps.
“We will also save water, a fundamental element for life and which must be taken care of. There will be a new field, with an automatic irrigation system that will allow us to save water. Native species of the area with low water consumption will be planted in the surroundings of the enclosure. We want to obtain the international LEED certification, regarding energy efficiency, ”says Pareja.
A figure that shows the growth that San Carlos will have will be the increase in its built-up area, since the current enclosure has 11 thousand square meters. Well, 31,000 new square meters will be built between the stands, the main building and the roof, which will give a new total area of 41,000 m2.
“We are proud. It is an announcement that excites us. It is a new design, we are not based on any specific model. We want it to be a contribution for the fan, for football, for the neighborhood and for the country. We want it to be a pressure cooker, to be the most modern and most pleasant stadium, to be a source of pride for the city and for the country, “said Juan Tagle, president of Cruzados, who noted that today they entered the environmental impact study .
“We are talking about a stadium for 20 thousand people. It is probably not enough for the Chilean team, but we hope it is for other sporting, cultural, and artistic events. We hope that it will be a benefit and that it will be very attractive for everyone ”, added the lawyer.
“More than a commercial partner, we are looking for a partner who shares our values. What Cruzados reflects in society in Chile is a lot of respect, identity. Without this partner this project is not viable. We hope that this partner is long-term. It has to be a brand consistent with UC’s values. There are many alternatives. This in Chile does not have much experience; there are, but not at the level of this magnitude. We have already had contact with several companies. And there is interest in being associated with this project, which we hope will be an icon of Santiago ”, concluded the lawyer.
The presentation of the architectural design of the New Crusade Fortress was made at 7:00 p.m. this afternoon, through a video published on the virtual platforms of the society, which can be seen in the following tweet.
