This Tuesday the Valparaíso Guarantee Court decreed preventive detention for the alleged aggressor of a veterinary doctor, who received a knife wound to his abdomen.

The man is Marcos Corporán Rodríguez, who was charged by the attempted murder crime.

The incident occurred on December 14 in the Cerro Esperanza sector, when the professional came to the aid of a group of dogs that were being beaten by the owner of a greengrocer, according to witnesses.

The victim was transferred to the Carlos Van Buren Hospital in Valparaíso, where he was operated on and stabilized. Meanwhile, the man was detained by Carabineros personnel who arrived at the scene.

In this regard, the plaintiff attorney, Paula Cáceres, indicated that the defendant’s version is that the veterinarian tripped on a step and fell on the knife.

After this, the judge Silvia Quintana determined the preventive detention for a period of 60 days, while the investigation lasts.

However, the defense announced that it will appeal the precautionary measure during the five-day period.
