The deputy of Social Convergence Gabriel Boric questioned the congratulations that the Communist Party gave to the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, for his victory in the parliamentary elections on December 6, whose legitimacy has questioned the international community.
“I have no doubt that the Communist Party in the future will regret having supported the situation Venezuela is experiencing today.”, said the leader of CS and founder of the Broad Front in an interview with the Zero Tolerance program, of CNN Chile.
Boric assured that “the elections in Venezuela do not meet any standard” and he emphasized that “I have no doubt that in Venezuela, as international reports have indicated, human rights are violated. “
With only a 31 percent turnout according to official data, Chavismo won the parliamentary elections without surprises and thus regained control of the National Assembly of Venezuela, the body that served the opponents to launch their offensive against the Maduro government.
The elections were marked by high abstention and the call for a boycott made by the opposition sector that supports the leader Juan Guaidó.
Both the European Union and other countries of the international community, including Chile, have considered that the elections held yesterday in Venezuela do not meet the minimum democratic standards.
THE CALL TO THE FA: “WE HAVE TO BE WILLING TO CHANGE OUR OPINION”
Boric’s sayings came at the end of a week marked by the deepening of the internal crisis of the Broad Front, in the middle of approaches that the block has had in recent days with the PC with a view to a possible deal for the 2021 election challenges.
These approaches generated, among other consequences, the departure of some of its deputies – such as the now former RD Pablo Vidal and Natalia Castillo-, after verifying the “left” of the block; the retirement of Liberal Party; and strong criticism of Constituent Unit (PS-PPD-DC-PR-PRO-Citizens).
At the same time, the event took place a few days after the deputy Giorgio Jackson, founding leader of the Democratic Revolution, assured that the most “natural” thing for the FA is to reach an agreement with the PC.
This Sunday, and through an online consultation, the militants of the DR decided this weekend the policy of alliances that the community will follow in the face of the election of the conventional ones in April 2021, choosing the Chile Digno pact (PC, FRVS and other movements) over Constituent Unit.
Regarding the situation that the FA is experiencing, Boric asserted that “We have convictions that we want to defend, but we have to be willing to change our mind.”
“Any political force that begins its trajectory defending too much its virtue of being young or new, is a political force that is decreed a short life“, raised the legislator.
Regarding the departure of deputies Castillo and Vidal from RD, Boric considered that this “has been oversized”, noting that both “They are two deputies with a very low vote.”
