Around a hundred people were arrested after the looting of a factory in iPhone in South India, where workers say they have not received their wages for four months and that they have been exploited.
This riot took place on Saturday in the factory of the Taiwanese group Wistron Infocomm Manufacturing, located in the suburbs of Bangalore.
Images filmed at the scene showed glass scattered on the ground and cars overturned. Video surveillance cameras, lamps and fans were also destroyed, as well as a vehicle set on fire.
Local media reported that employees complained that they had not received their wages for four months and were forced to work overtime.
“The situation is now under control. Special teams have been deployed to investigate the incident “local police told AFP on Sunday, adding that there were no injuries to regret.
Karnataka State Deputy Prime Minister CN Ashwathnarayan denounced these acts as “gratuitous violence”, adding that his government will ensure that light is shed “without delay” on this matter.
“We will make sure that the rights of the workers are respected and all the money owed is paid to them,” he said.
A local union leader denounced the “Brutal exploitation” to which factory workers are subjected.
“The state government has allowed the company to not respect the fundamental rights” of the employees, union member Satyanand (who uses only one name) told The Hindu newspaper.
The Wistron group declined to comment on the events.
