On the return from quarantine in Santiago after the regression of the Metropolitan Region to Phase 2, Mayor Felipe Alessandri referred to the health situation in his commune.

“Today more than ever empathy is needed, putting ourselves in the place of the other, nobody wants to be confined. Santiago was one of the communes with the longest quarantine ever. For us it would be a tremendous punishment to go back”, declared the communal chief of Santiago, in interview with CNN Chile.

In that sense, Alessandri stated that “if we take care of each other, we will certainly advance to phase 3 ″.

Based on the above, the mayor of Santiago pointed to the behavior of young people and immigrants after the phase reversal experienced by the Metropolitan Region.

“Young people are the ones who have gathered the most in clandestine parties,” he stated.

On foreigners, he maintained that “Santiago is the commune of the country with the most immigrants and, sometimes, some with their behaviors promote xenophobia, I want to say it openly. “
