The Broad Front made a decision that is to get behind the Communist Party. It is surprising that a movement that proposed the renewal of politics ends up behind the most talkative and orthodox party of the extreme left, which is the CP.
With those words the president of the DC referred, Fuad chahin, to the statements made by the RD deputy and founder of the Broad Front, Giorgio Jackson, on the alliance policy of the bloc. “For us an alliance with the PC is more natural than leaving with the former Concertación,” said the parliamentarian, in an interview with La Tercera.
The words of the broad front caused annoyance not only in the DC, at whom he threw several of his darts, but also among some leaders of the Constituent Unit (DC, PR, PPD, PS, PRO and Citizens), who criticized the fact that Giorgio Jackson aimed to divide the center-left into two poles. And although the statements of the RD deputy did not completely surprise the helmsmen of that pact, they did reaffirm that there would no longer be possibilities of a single list of the sector with a view to the election of conventional constituents.
“If Jackson believes that the division of forces is virtuous for the constituent process, he is deeply mistaken,” said the president of the Socialist Party, Álvaro Elizalde, who, before the summons made by Jackson to his party, added: “Let no one be deceitful. The only thing that the PS pursues is the broad unity of all progressive forces for the constituent process. If others promote division, let them not ask for our endorsement ”.
“The Broad Front concludes its drift towards the more traditional left positions, represented by the Communist Party and its candidate Daniel Jadue, who will clearly be the ones who will set the tone in this new left pole.”, said in turn, the president of the Radical Party, Carlos Maldonado.
In turn, his PPD peer, Heraldo Muñoz, held that “It seems that the Frente Amplio is confused about its horizon. If its leaders feel electorally closer to the Communist Party, there they are within their rights. The FA does not have a vocation for unity, rather for identity, and in order to achieve unity, one cannot start by saying yes and no, because unity will always be less than ideal. The fundamental thing at this time is that the center-left is strengthened and reorganized ”.
The leader of the PPD and presidential candidate of his party went further and called for the formation of a “social democratic movement” with the Liberal Party and the parliamentarians who left the Democratic Revolution -Pablo Vidal and Natalia Castillo- last week. “The fundamental thing is that the center-left is strengthened and reorganized (…). That is the task for our world and conversations with the PL and with those who emigrated from the DR would be very important. That is the purpose of strengthening the social democratic left ”, stressed Muñoz.
Meanwhile, from the Communist Party, Deputy Jackson’s statements were well received.
He was the president of that community, William Teillier, who supported the thesis of the Frente Amplio parliamentarian and stated – in an interview with La Tercera PM – that “we would like to have a partial agreement with the Frente Amplio, hold a presidential primary among ourselves.”
Also, the communist deputy added that “I very much agree with what Giorgio Jackson says and hopefully that will materialize in a list for conventionals, because I think it is very important for the future of the new Constitution.”
Furthermore, Teillier stated that “after the social outbreak and after having the demands of the citizens on the table, it also seems to us that an agreement with the Broad Front is more natural than with the former Concertación. We, the group of Chile Digno parties, have always thought of trying to reach agreements with the Broad Front ”.
However, the cross-questioning occurs when there are still talks for eventual non-legal primaries between all the opposition blocs.
