Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and former mayor of New York, Rudy giuliani, was hospitalized after contracting covid-19. He thus becomes the most recent member of the president’s circle, where the use of a mask or social distance is rare, to contract the virus.
As reported by the New York Times, ABC and CNN, the 76-year-old lawyer who heads the US president’s attempts to reverse the results of the elections in which he lost reelection, He was admitted to Georgetown University Hospital this Sunday.
Initially announced by Trump, Giuliani himself implicitly confirmed his diagnosis by stating on Twitter hours later that he is being cared for and that he “feels fine.”
The lawyer has been traveling the country for the past month to try to contest, without success, the results of the presidential elections by attending hearings and meetings in which he appeared without a mask.
On Wednesday he went to the Michigan Assembly in Lansing for a lengthy audition of more than four hours. This scene has also been repeated in places like Pennsylvania, Georgia or Washington since the announcement of Joe Biden’s victory on November 7.
“Rudy Giuliani, by far the best mayor in New York history, and who worked tirelessly to unmask the most corrupt election (by far!) In US history, tested positive for the Chinese virus,” Trump tweeted, using again an expression that has already elicited complaints from Beijing and the scientific community in the past, for stigmatizing the Chinese population in relation to the disease.
“Get well soon Rudy, we are going to continue !!!” added the Republican president, who continues without acknowledging his defeat against Joe Biden in the presidential elections on November 3, a month after the announcement of the results.
Hours earlier, Giuliani had been interviewed live by Fox News, showing no apparent signs of the disease.
Trump’s legal team said in a statement that the lawyer had twice tested negative before his most recent trip and that he “did not have any symptoms or positive test for COVID-19 until more than 48 hours after his return.”
Other members of the legal team are going to isolate themselves and undergo a coronavirus test, following the recommendations of the health authorities.
Justice has so far dismissed numerous appeals filed by Donald Trump’s team of lawyers.
On Saturday night, the outgoing president also did not wear a mask during his first post-election rally, held in Georgia before a crowd in which very few wore protection against the virus.
Trump himself also tested positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of October, as well as his wife Melania and several members of his close environment, such as different collaborators or his children Donald Jr. and Barron.
After three days in hospital, the Republican magnate returned to the White House before resuming days later the acts of a campaign in which he maintained a frantic pace until just before the vote.
