The Minister of Foreign Relations, Andrés Allamand, together with the Government spokesman, Jaime Bellolio, came out in the face of criticism of the agreement that the Government signed with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to accompany the constitutional process in Chile .
Minister Allamand told Radio Tele13 that “the very reform of the Constitution that gave rise to the constituent process indicates that one of the obligations of the Government is to make available to the constituents and in general to the process, the highest level technical advice that can be obtained. That is established precisely in the reform itself “.
“Frankly, I cannot understand what the criticism is, if ultimately what we are going to do is make available, I insist, to the conventional and in general to the political forces, to the citizen forces that participate in this process, the vision that is had from one of the most prestigious organizations from the point of view of the different public policies “, added Allamand.
“The OECD has within it the most solid democracies in the world that precisely house diverse political regimes, which can be taken as a reference. The same I can point out with everything that has to do with social rights. European constitutions are those that enshrine better the rights of people and particularly social rights “.
Finally, the Chancellor stressed that “having in view the political regime, the constitutional norms of the most solvent democracies, seems to me to help the process, deliberation and reflection. It is an input that is made available to the conventions and the convention itself as a whole. I think it should be received with good eyes and not negatively. “
Bellolio: “There is not a hint of wanting to influence the content”
For his part, the Government Spokesperson, Jaime Bellolio said in Cooperative radio that “part of the obligations that the Government has as a State policy is the accompaniment of this process, particularly in the technical field, therefore, it is surprising to me that there are those who criticize that the OECD, given the experience it has in documentation , in information, in the comparative analyzes of the same constitutions, that someone criticizes that there may be better and more information “.
“It is part of the obligation that the Government of Chile has, not only to finance, but also, for example, to provide the place where it is going to be done and provide technical advice, so this agreement has to do with that, that there is better and more information so that it is the Convention that makes the decision on the regulation, how they will work and how this new Constitution will be, “he added.
Finally, he stated that “there is no case, not a hint, of wanting to influence in terms of one or another content, that will be up to the conventional constituents that are going to be elected by the citizens. Of course the Government has the Obligation to prepare for the best in this case. “
