This Saturday, within the framework of its Extraordinary General Council, the Liberal Party of Chile agreed to leave the Frente Amplio opposition community where it is included until today.

“It is a sad day, but we do it calm and serene because the path that this historical moment demands is the opposition UNIT to build constitutional majorities”, Said via Twitter the deputy for Arica Vlado Mirosevic, one of the two parliamentarians of the community.

“At this moment we have legitimate differences”, the party said in a public statement. “It is not a happy decision. Each and every one of the movements of the Frente Amplio witnessed that the PL did everything in its power to prevent this outcome.”.

“We raise our differences with brotherhood, honesty and timely, always first in private before making it public. However, when wills do not converge on the way forward, the right thing to do is to go separate ways”.

The president of the Liberal Party, Luis Felipe RamosHe pointed out: “This is a decision that we would not have wanted to take, we did everything possible to prevent it from happening, but there are legitimate differences that prevent us from continuing to work in the same coalition.”

Ramos pointed out that the priority of the opposition shop is within the framework of the constituent process and the 2021 election process, which is why they advocate for opposition unity. “Our main responsibility at this time is to build constitutional majorities and prevent this disastrous government of Sebastián Piñera from continuing, therefore, we liberals will do everything possible so that the right wing does not have the next government. This demands the maximum possible unity of all the progressive opposition, we cannot be a testimonial project, and that is not merely declarative, but requires concrete actions ”.

“We were not able to convey with the necessary force within the Broad Front how important it is to build the opposition unit, and they opted for a minority path that prevents the construction of majorities,” added Ramos.

This exit from Frente Amplio, joins the resignations, this week, of the deputies Natalia Castillo and Pablo Vidal to the Democratic Revolution, party where they militated. Previously, The Humanist, Ecologist, Equality, and Pirate Party also emigrated from the conglomerate.

For the current parliamentary term, the Broad Front arrived with 20 deputies. With the departures, now only 11 of the originals remain, although with the incorporation of Marcelo Díaz and Patricio Rosas (both from PS) they add up to 13.
