“Outrageous!”. This is how the Mayor of Renca, Claudio Castro, after knowing that a older adult who participates in the v programAcaciones del Sernatur tested positive for covid-19.
The communal chief assured in his Twitter account that the municipality refused to make the trip, however, Sernatur also took a group of 33 older adults to a vacation in the north of the country.
The problem is that a Renca sentinel, a testing and traceability system that is deployed in the field, identified one of the participants with covid-19, therefore, he demanded that the government “put an end to this initiative.
As specified, traveled in a bus for 6 hours round trip, slept in cabins and most are over 70 years old, there are even some 85 years old, and they suffer from chronic diseases.
The holidays took place between November 24 and 30 to the Fourth Region, so all those who participated are direct contacts.
“We are tracing and isolating the entire group and its close contacts. Those with symptoms will receive home medical visits, “he added.
Likewise, it denounced that Sernatur contacted the president of an organization for the elderly, who was offered the trip and that preventive measures were not respected during it, such as the application of the PCR test prior to taking the bus.
Moreover, he assured that -based on the information provided by the passengers- there were some older adults who presented symptoms during the holidays.
In Castro’s opinion, this program “Violates the sanitary restrictions of the same Ministry of Health, putting our neighbors at risk and the health strategy that we have implemented with great effort in Renca and that today has us in phase 4, which does not allow meetings of clubs for the elderly ”.
The communal chief highlighted the great effort they have made as a municipality to avoid contagion in the population at greatest risk, for that reason he promised that, together with primary care, they will give them all the help they require and receive care in their homes.
“We have delivered the records to the health authority early and we will continue to provide the best care for our community,” he closed.
