Coquimbo advances thanks to its fourth victory

A minute of the game had been played when a Joe Abrigo center was connected with a cue, a luxury, by Diego Vallejos. Although there was a VAR review and the television images still left more than one doubt, the Ecuadorian referee validated it.

The 0-1 “dressing room” in favor of Coquimb Unido forced Sport Huancayo to score two goals, to win by any score to advance to the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana. With the luxury of Vallejos, any tie was enough for the Pirates now. Or win.

Coquimbo Unido held up well the first half of the match, earning some yellow cards, but playing the game wisely. The Peruvians, meanwhile, failed at the exact moment when the attack became dangerous for the claims of the squad led by Juan José Ribera.

Huancayo appeared after the break with an offensive disposition that left space for the aurinegro counterattack. And both Farfán and Abrigo knew how to take advantage of it, although the ball would not end up in the net. Yet.

In this way, Coquimbo Unido advances to the quarterfinals of the Cup, in its second participation in an international competition after passing through the 1992 Libertadores, where it did not pass the group stage.

The rival of the Pirates will be known this Thursday, when Unión La Calera plays its cards against Junior from Barranquilla, who won 2-1 in the first leg.
