“Today (Wednesday), Pfizer was presented at the ANMAT to authorize the vaccine in Argentina. This requires all the documentation of all the studies that have been done, “said the minister in statements to radio Rivadavia.
The minister did not anticipate how long the process will take but estimated that the vaccine will obtain the go-ahead in Argentina, after having obtained it in England.
“If the United Kingdom approved it, I am convinced that it has comfortably everything it needs to have, but I cannot anticipate it because it does not depend on me, it is a technical decision,” said González García.
The United Kingdom became the first country in the world to approve the vaccine developed by Pfizer together with the German BioNTech.
The British Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) assured that, despite the speed of its approval, it was done respecting all the protocols and without haste.
The Minister González García He had said last week that the Argentine government planned to begin vaccinating in the first half of January, as long as the vaccines are available.
Argentina has a fatality rate that is among the highest in the world, with almost 39,000 deaths and 1.43 million infected in a country of 44 million inhabitants.
The South American country participated in volunteer trials of phase 3 of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, as well as that of the Chinese group Sinopharm.
In addition, together with Mexico, it agreed that it will produce the vaccine that develops the Oxford University with the British pharmacist AstraZeneca for distribution in Latin America, in case it passes phase 3.
It also signed an agreement with the Sputnik project, of the Russian Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology Gamaleya.
The Argentine government intends to have 60 million vaccines and inoculate 100% of Argentines.
