The seizure of the former minister’s emails Jaime Mañalich, your former chief of staff, Itziar Linazasoro, and the undersecretary Paula Daza it was authorized by the judge of the Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago, Darwin bratti. That happened on Friday, September 11, within the framework of the case investigated by the prosecutor Marcelo carrasco, in which the President is accused Sebastian Piñera, Mañalich and other health authorities, for possible crimes associated with the management of the pandemic, such as the possible illicit reckless spread of pathogenic germs.

However, that Friday the diligence did not materialize. The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, refused and opened a long dispute that even reached the Supreme Court. Paris’ refusal pointed to the fact that the emails contained information that affected the security of the country.

This judicial fight culminated this Monday. “The diligence was completed (…) I received the prosecutor on Friday, I spoke with him and today we finalize the selection and in the afternoon we will deliver the list of emails,” said Paris.

The IT teams worked together with the Minsal lawyers throughout the weekend and reviewed the 49,000 emails one by one. The process consisted of “singling out” the messages that contained information on the purchase of medical supplies or the disposal of military and police personnel. After the review, sources linked to the cause assured that approximately 30 emails were excluded. All the rest will be at the disposal of the prosecution, as part of the background of the case.

The prosecution has the support of all emails. After they were delivered by Entel, the Public Ministry together with the PDI made two copies with all the messages. Copy A remained in the hands of the Central North prosecutor’s office and copy B in the hands of the Minsal. This last copy could not be edited, so the same sources point out that the Health team drew up a list of emails that could threaten national security. Only those will be the ones that cannot be used by the investigators in the ongoing investigation..
