A delegation of opposition deputies and deputies visited the people held in the Maximum Security Prison, to verify the conditions in which they are, request the end of the isolation measures and announce the presentation of a draft general pardon for detainees during the social outburst.

It was a group of legislators made up of Camila Vallejo, Gael Yeomans, Maite Orsini, Claudia Mix, Boris Barrera, Amaro Labra, Tomás Hirsch and Gonzalo Winter, who met with Jeremy Ramírez and Omar Jerez.

Both are “punished”, without having contact with other prisoners, which in the opinion of the parliamentarians, would constitute a violation of human rights.

In addition, visits have been prohibited since March, so since Friday, November 27, relatives in different cities of the country began a fast demanding that this measure be ended.

The action of the relatives will last until December 10 with a great national day of protest.

Let us remember that the Ministry of Justice announced this Monday a progressive return of the face-to-face visits of relatives to the country’s prisons, which had been suspended at the national level to avoid outbreaks of contagion inside prisons.

Relatives ask to support project

The spokesperson for the Political Prisoners of La Granja, María Marchant, He pointed out that “the Chilean State has kidnapped our young people for having a different thought, for not conforming to socializing in a doctor’s office.”

“We demand that the country and the deputies support us in the bill that is being drafted together with the families for the absolute freedom of our prisoners,” he added.

Meanwhile, the deputy Claudia Mix indicated that “we have had several meetings with the Gendarmerie, where we have raised the need to review the precautionary measures.”

“We are going to strongly promote this initiative that allows ending this arrest, with this unjust condition that today more than 500 social fighters live in the different jails of the country,” he added.

In turn, the deputy Gonzalo winter He specified that “the government of Sebastián Piñera is using preventive detention and the State’s Internal Security Law as a tool for political control and punishment of its adversaries and those who think differently.”

“This is completely unacceptable in the rule of law. That is why today we are part of and support a pardon law, “he said.

Finally, the deputy Maite Orsini He said that “for a few weeks we have been working with relatives of people who are unjustly in prison with regard to events that occurred within the framework of the social outbreak.”
