The Electoral Service (Servel) is being criticized for allegedly not having correctly communicated, explained or publicized the election process on Sunday, in which some political pacts submitted their candidates to a popular vote in primaries for the April 2021 elections.
In addition to this, the organism has been whipped by the very low participation registered yesterday: 2.89% at the close of this edition, with a total of 418,685 votes in a list of 14,470,550 people authorized to vote, 13,909,835 of them independent and 560,715 militants.
Along these lines, and in a balance of the day held this Monday morning, Patricio Santamaría, president of the Servel Board of Directors, defended the entity and assured that it did what it had to do to disclose the details that citizens required.
“We did what we had to do. It is up to us to manage and organize the election, there was a campaign and if you review we had six free radial capsules daily and all a diffusion with respect to the primaries ”, indicated Santamaría in the instance.
“In addition, advertisements were hired on television, written press, and digital media. We were present on all our Twitter, Instagram and Youtube platforms in such a way that we comply with spreading, obviously within the framework of the budgets available at this point ”, added the manager.
After that, Santamaría refused to deliver an analysis of the high number of Chileans who preferred not to go to the polls and commented that, in their opinion, this phenomenon should be analyzed from the point of view of the assessment of institutions and the empowerment of people.
“(On) The issue of participation I am not going to refer, I think it does not correspond. (…) I’m just going to say that I think that, from my point of view, it has a different amount of reasons and not to be attributed to certain elements, situations or circumstances the issue of low participation, but it has to be a more systemic, multidisciplinary look, “he said.
