The primary of Chile We go for mayors in the commune of Vitacura was won, this Sunday, by the aspiring Evópoli, Camila Merino.

“I want to thank everyone who opened the door for us and made proposals to improve Vitacura. Vitacura can improve a lot in security, education, urban planning. Vitacura can be an example for Chile and for the world“said the former Minister of Labor of the first Government of Sebastián Piñera, which received a phone call of congratulations from the President.

The traditional pro-right vote in this commune aroused broad interest in the parties of the ruling bloc. Only the PRI did not raise a candidate for the primary, whose winner can almost certainly take his place as successor to Raúl Torrealba.

Merino -who could not vote, given that it is registered in Las Condes- was supported by UDI presidential candidate Evelyn Matthei, while the other candidate of said community, Joaquin Lavin, supported Pablo Zalaquett.

The defeated former mayor of Florida and Santiago, commented, after his defeat, that “Camila represents a party like Evópoli, which has been more coherent, (well) everyone supported her. The more traditional parties have been more divided and we have paid the cost“.

In addition to Zalaquett, Merino beat RN Maximiliano del Real.
