It was the tumultuous years of the 1970s and the young Aldo Valle Acevedo (1955) took a rickety train every day from his home in the commune of The cross, within Valparaíso region, heading to the main port, in order to attend classes at the emblematic Eduardo de la Barra High School. That experience would mark him with fire, and years later, he referred to it in an interview.
“I come from an area where today there is no connectivity for a young man to travel by train like I did, and that gave many options in the day to travel and return to La Cruz,” Valle said in conversation with the site Regional Bow.
Its framework of action has always been the Fifth Region. In fact, studied law at the University of Valparaíso and, once he graduated, he stayed working in the same house of studies. First, as an assistant, then he already obtained a professorship. Later, he was Secretary General –as Ricardo Lagos was at the University of Chile–, and then dean of the Faculty of Law.
He held that position when in 2008 he was elected as rector of the University of Valparaíso. Upon arrival, the UV was not in the best of states. Valle began to carry out a management with an emphasis on economic sanitation, and once this was achieved, he began to expand the infrastructure and the enrollment of new students.
Under his management –And in line with a phenomenon that has occurred in several universities in our country– the publishing label Ediciones UV was born, who has published works by important authors such as Enrique Lihn, Rosabetty Muñoz, Agustín Squella, and even Fernando Pessoa and Emily Dickinson.
In 2012 he was elected president of the Consortium of Chilean State Universities, and in 2015 he assumed the vice-presidency of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH). In this position, he had to face the agitated version of the PSU 2019, when the test had to be postponed due to demonstrations that occurred in the midst of the social outbreak.

Valle defended both the postponement of the test and the cancellation of the PSU of History -after the leak of some questions of that exam-, a measure that was resisted from the world of culture and humanities. He also faced at that time with the leader of the Education portfolio, Marcela Cubillos, whom he tried to “abuse”, since he held the government responsible for the incidents that occurred that forced the test to be delayed.
“The political system has more responsibility than the Council of Rectors,” he said at that time.
Valley was also Chief lawyer of the Legal Division of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries, during the government of Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle Y He has a Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Valparaíso, and a Doctor in Public Law and Legal Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Even though has no political militancy, competed in the primaries this Sunday in the pact of the Constituent Unit, with the support of the PS and the PPD, facing the letter of the DC, Cristián Mella.
And during this day, in a disputed election, Cristián Mella prevailed in the constituent unit primary and with 51.90% he rose as the candidate for governor for Valparaíso.
