Keep making history. Ignacio Casale, the most consecrated Chilean rider in the history of the Dakar Rally, was made official as a rider of the international team Tatra Buggyra Racing, marking in passing a tremendous milestone and achievement in the history and career of the national pilot.
The ‘Dog’ was confirmed in the cast that hopes to strike the next Dakar, a competition that has been confirmed in its forty-third edition to be held between January 3 and 15, 2021 in the Saudi Arabian desert, for a second consecutive year.
The Chilean representative this time will seek a good performance in the truck category, a division he knows since at an early age he had an experience sailing with his father Francisco. This time the scenario will be different: Casale will compete driving a powerful Tatra Phoenix truck.
In relation to the team that will accompany the successful athlete Red Bull, next to ‘Nacho’ will be Alvaro León, a 33-year-old Chilean professional who already has 7 Dakar Rally in the body, having obtained first place in the Side by Side category together Francisco “Chaleco” López in 2019, while the mechanic will be confirmed by the team in the coming days.
“For me it is a real dream come true the one I’m living. It took me 12 years to get to an official international team, so the joy I am feeling is something that I have a hard time expressing in words. It is a tremendous opportunity, and for the same reason I am going to give my best, ”said Ignacio Casale.
“It is a huge challenge, but I am very focused on acclimating myself to the vehicle in the best way and doing a good competition to continue growing as an athlete and setting milestones both in my career and in the Dakar itself,” he added.
Asked about the strictly sporting aspects and the preparation prior to the 2021 Dakar Rally, the national driver was sincere and pointed out that “I would have loved to have traveled many kilometers of preparation with the truck, train many more hours and days to get to know him in depth, but unfortunately, the worldwide contingency resulting from the Coronavirus made it impossible for us to complete the training sessions that we had agreed to since March ”.
“Only now we managed to travel and we are trying to make the most of every minute we have with the truck, in fact now we are in the town of Roudnice, near Prague, at the Buggyra Racing headquarters, and tomorrow we will travel 200 kilometers to Poland to carry out a 4-day training with the complete equipment. The idea is to test the truck thoroughly and set all the necessary parameters to accommodate the vehicle as best as possible. As always, we will do our best ”, he added.
Regarding the signing of the Chilean pilot to the ranks of the international team, who was just behind was Martin Koloc, Buggyra Racing team boss who noted that “This year, Ignacio led in his category by more than 20 minutes ahead of him before reaching the final stage, so probably He thought that he already needed new challenges in his career and that is where we appeared, that we know his trajectory since 2010 ”.
The vehicle for the competition has among its main features a Gyrtech Rally Power MK 19-3EC IN-LINE 6 engine, which reaches 1100 HP of power, with a torque of 4500 Nm, a weight of 8500 kilograms, an assisted manual transmission 16-speed and a maximum speed of up to 140 km / hour (speed limited for safety reasons).
Tatra Buggyra Racing is an international team based in the Czech Republic supported by Tatra Trucks, the second oldest truck manufacturer in the world and characterized by its particular chassis with independent suspension. In addition, they have participated in the Dakar Rally since 2014, standing out in 2015 with two stages won in the Trucks category and a seventh place in the general table.
