The deputies of Chile Come on They rejected the bill presented by a group of opposition legislators to bring forward the presidential and parliamentary elections, and hold them in April 2021.
Led by the vice president of RN, Paulina Núñez; the deputy head of the RN bench of deputies, Karin Luck; the head of the UDI bench, María José Hoffmann; and his partner from Evópoli, Luciano Cruz-Coke; the pro-government deputies described the measure as “Coup and unpatriotic”.
Núñez accused that “We are facing a soft coup”, a concept that he defined as “a set of non-frontal, non-violent, conspiratorial techniques, in order to destabilize a government and cause its downfall.”
“They were not able to win the government and today they intend to send it to the house. It’s not going to work for them, ”said the RN vice president.

Hoffmann, for his part, said that the bill “is as ridiculous as us or the government itself presenting a bill to dilute Congress” and argued that “what citizens are waiting for is that this Congress is up to what the country needs, but all they do is reduce trust, continue damaging democracy”.
This day, the bench of the Christian Democracy (DC) announced that it will not support the project. In the Communist Party (PC), the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue, also distanced himself from the initiative, stating that it is “In favor of complying with processes and meeting schedules”.
Along these lines, Congressman Cruz-Coke called on “the democratic forces to reject these attempts by those who do not believe in democracy“.
The project is promoted by Rodrigo González (PPD) and Jaime Mulet (FRVS) under the argument of “relegitimizing” the Executive and Parliament after the social outbreak and the plebiscite.
