What you have to know this Tuesday in La Tercera: Advance the presidential election? The debate that was installed after the 10% struggle

The decision of President Sebastián Piñera to turn to the TC against the reform promoted by the opposition for a second 10% generated angry criticism from the center-left, where some sectors even raised the idea of ​​advancing the presidential election to end his term early. “There is no overtaking of presidential elections. What exists is the resignation and the succession until the term of someone elected by Congress ends and, frankly, Congress does not have much greater legitimacy today than the presidential figure, ”Auth declared.

Tomorrow the opposition and government initiatives that allow a new withdrawal of pension funds will be voted in the Senate hall. And amid the uncertainty about both results, as a result of the tension caused by La Moneda’s offensive to challenge the center-left reform in the TC, senators from Chile Vamos conditioned support for the government project on the approval of indications that moderate the restrictions it contains.

The amendments came mainly from legislators who have been inclined to give their vote to the opposition reform. The UDI José Miguel Durana and David Sandoval, for example, seek to increase the maximum withdrawal from the 100 UF contemplated in the government text to 120 UF, in addition to raising the exclusion threshold to the highest incomes, shortening the terms of delivery and eliminate the obligation of the refund.

This will be voted on today in the United Finance and Labor committees, and while some DCs are about to approve his idea of ​​legislating, senators PS and PPD say they will be subtracted. In what there is consensus in the center-left is that in the particular discussion they will reject en bloc the reimbursement of resources and all the conditions imposed by the Executive for the withdrawal.

And what will happen in the room? It is estimated that the reform of the opposition will be voted first and to approve it it needs at least two official votes. The position assumed by the five senators of Chile Vamos who approved the first 10% will be key there: the UDI Moreira, Sandoval and Durana, and the RN Manuel José Ossandón and Juan Castro.

Moreira and Ossandón They have already indicated that they would vote in favor of both projects, so it is not ruled out that both La Moneda and the center-left end approved. This November 29, the legal primaries for the municipal and governor elections of April 11, 2021 will be held. Chile Vamos, the Broad Front and the Constituent Unit pact, which groups together the former Concertación parties, registered elections.
