A man died after being shot in the leg in the middle of a Carabineros procedure for Intrafamily Violence (VIF) in the commune of Tongoy, Coquimbo region, which took place this Sunday.

The subject identified as IAAA of 30 years had – by provision of the Court of Guarantee of Coquimbo- prohibition of approaching both his mother and his sisterDespite this, he reached the address that the two women share.

The Carabineros indicated that the individual’s sister was the one who called them, denouncing that IAAA had come to the property and physically attacked her.

“This guy in an aggressive and treacherous way he attacks the carabinieri with a forceful element, with a stick that actually destroys the windshield of one of the radio patrols. Later with a knife, and with clear signs of injuring the police, he attacks them with this element, ”said the prefect of the Coquimbo Police Department, Colonel Carlos Rojas.

In this context, Colonel Rojas remarked that the carabinieri acted in self-defense and for the victims of IFV, since the subject was making threats with a knife in his hand.

“Carabineros, and in their legitimate defense, had to necessarily make use of their service weapons, delivering a warning shot and other shots to the lower extremities in order to reduce it,” the officer said.

Once injured and reduced, the police officers themselves transferred him – as a detainee – to the Tongoy’s Office, from where he was transferred by ambulance to the Regional Hospital of Coquimbo, site where during the early hours of this Monday his death was confirmed.

An acquaintance of justice

From the Public Ministry they confirmed BioBioChile that the situation will be investigated, which is why the prosecutor is awaiting the respective police reports and the result of the autopsy that the Legal Medical Service (SML).

In parallel, they indicated that the subject had an extensive criminal record and had been formalized by threats in the context of VIF, threats to police and also for violation of article 318 of the Penal Code that establishes penalties for not respecting the restrictions of the pandemic.

In addition, they highlighted that the Prosecutor’s Office had given the victims (mother and sister) the Online Family service for current cases of violence, which was activated and used on this occasion.
